Quick Answer

Can I keep chickens in my backyard?

You can keep hens (no roosters) in your backyard as long as your coop is 20 feet from your house (or any church or school). You cannot keep chickens if you live in an apartment building. The city ordinance does not mention a limit to the number of chickens you can keep.

If you have not kept chickens before, consider learning about their needs. The Institute for Urban Homesteading has regular weekend classes and/or start by reading one of the many online forums, including Backyard Chickens.
